MORE ON REGULAR EXPRESSIONS by Ed Sawicki - Accelerated Learning Center / Tailored Computers Last week, I mentioned how I was blocking unwanted e-mail by using regular expressions to do Subject: line filtering - among other techniques. Experience gained with Postfix since then shows that once you have a few hundred expressions in your list, delays occur that cause Postfix to start misbehaving. The telltale sign is "fatal:" error messages from Postfix processes in the mail logs. The solution is to bump up the speed of your hardware or do this filtering in non-real-time afterwards. I've limited my Subject: line expressions in Postfix to the most common 150. This includes, of course, the names of all the designer drugs and body part enhancements.
