LOOKS LIKE WINDOWS?
by Ed Sawicki

I've received feedback from many of you regarding the
Linux/Open Source education track at ITEC. Thank you
for taking time to respond. One issue surfaced that is
interesting and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. One
person suggested that ITEC show attendees are historically
Windows-oriented and that any demos show Linux desktops
as identical to Windows desktops as possible. This to
minimize any re-training objections should a company
want to migrate to Linux from Windows.

Another person said that we should deliberately make
Linux desktops appear as different as possible from
Windows. Linux will never be as good a _Windows_ desktop
as Windows so why try? We should portray Linux as a better
desktop and making it look just like Windows defeats that.

What do you think?

COMCAST SPAM
In the past few weeks, comcast e-mail servers have become
a major source of spam. If your mail is handled by a comcast
server, expect to have your messages blocked by an increasing
number of sites. Many mail administrators are no longer
capable of and have no desire to report the massive volume of
spam to the ISPs.

THE CONSEQUENCES OF DUMBING DOWN
"The Board views the endemic use of PowerPoint briefing
slides instead of technical papers as an illustration of
the problematic methods of technical communication at
NASA."
