HISTORY IN THE MAKING
by Ken Barber

Oregon's House Bill 2892, a piece of legislation that I wrote,
will be heard at 8:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) morning by the
General Government committee of Oregon's House of Representatives.
As far as I know, it will be the first time in history for a bill
dealing with Open Source Software to make it this far in the
United States.

Numerous people will be testifying including myself, Ed Sawicki,
Paul Nelson, Cooper Stevenson, and several others from around
the State. You can listen to the committee hearing live via the
Internet on the state legislature's web site. Click here

http://www.leg.state.or.us/listn/listenset.htm

and choose "audio: live today". Where you click from there
varies from hour to hour, but you want to look for the House
General Government Committee hearing. There are two General
Government committees, one for the House and one for the Senate.
You want the one for the HOUSE.

There might, or might not, also be live video available. If it's
there, you'll have to poke around to find it.

You will need RealPlayer installed on your computer for this to
work. If you don't have RealPlayer there is a link at the bottom
of the above-referenced Web page to the site where you can
download it.

You can listen to the committee hearing later by clicking on the
"archives" link at the bottom of the page.

The committee chair has allotted one hour for consideration of
this bill, and it will be the first one heard. The bill's
proponents get the first half-hour and its opponents get the last
half-hour. We do not know at this time what form the opposition
will take.
