SAFER DNS ROOTS
by Ed Sawicki - Accelerated Learning Center / Tailored Computers

Great news! One of the DNS root servers is running new DNS
server software, adding much needed diversity to the
Internet's domain naming system. The server, k.root-servers.net
is located in London and is now running software called NSD
(Name Server Daemon). All the other root servers are running
various versions of the BIND software, which has had
numerous security issues.

Diversity is the simplest and least expensive way to improve
security and reduce the effects of successful attacks. The
use of NSD will help break the stranglehold that BIND has had
ever since the introduction of DNS in the mid-1980s.

The Accelerated Learning Center has added the NSD software to
our DNS Boot Camp course, which will be offered next month on
March 11, 2003.

WIRELESS JAMMING
by Ed Sawicki - Accelerated Learning Center / Tailored Computers

PANUG expects that an update on wireless Ethernet will be
presented at a monthly meeting soon. The presentation,
given by a vendor, will focus on the benefits of the
technology. There's quite a number of new people on this
list who have not had an opportunity to read some of the
articles that were published on this subject in the past.

Here's one that's as relevant today as it was when it
was written last year:
