WILL LINDOWS BE POPULAR? by Lorraine Renard I have a question for anyone who would like to respond. What do you think the demand for Lindows is going to be in the future? Is this OS one that we need to be concerned with? Please respond to this question by replying to this message and we'll forward your reply to Lorraine. OPERA SECURITY Opera is a multiplatform Web browser that runs on Windows, Linux, Mac, and other operating systems. Opera version 7 was released last week and there were 5 security issues published this morning. The following URLs describe the problems. http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm002-op/ http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm003-op/ http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm004-op/ http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm005-op/ http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm006-op/ OSS IN OREGON by Ken Barber I have just been informed by an Open-Source-friendly legislator that there MIGHT be a committee hearing coming up at the state legislature that will affect the State of Oregon's ability to deploy Open-Source software. We are looking for credible people who can go to Salem on fairly short notice to give testimony about how much money they have saved their organization(s) by switching to Open Source. Since Microsoft's newest FUD is along the lines of "Open Source is more expensive to administer", we're going to be especially interested in hearing from people who found Open Source products less costly (presumably in terms of employee time) to administer and maintain than what the State is currently using (mostly Windows NT/2000 with some XP). If you are able and willing to help with this effort, please contact me, Ken Barber, at a special email address I've set up for this effort: opensource4oregon@teleport.com HUMOR from Duff Kurland: http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/dah18/america/ from Steve Coan: http://bbspot.com/News/2002/10/bsod_ads.html
