PANUG MEETING THIS WEEK

This Thursday is PANUG's monthly meeting. You'll
receive details tomorrow.

DNS CLASS TOMORROW

There's still room in tomorrow's DNS Boot Camp class.
This new version of the class dramatically simplifies
DNS concepts and suggests ways to eliminate the
typical DNS security problems that has plagued DNS
for so long. For details, visit the PANUG or
BizNix Web sites.

LINUX INSTALLFEST

BizNix is holding a Linux Installation session this
Saturday starting at 9:00 am at Novell's office in
Tigard. This session is open to anyone but is geared
to Linux newbies. There is no charge for attending.

There will be demonstrations of Linux installations
that cover sometimes difficult issues like disk
partitioning issues. You can bring your own computer
and install Linux on it with experienced Linux users
there to help.

If you want to attend, please RSVP by replying to
this message. For directions, visit the BizNix web
site at http://www.biznix.org.

PANUG BOARD

One seat on the PANUG Board became available
as of January 1. If you want to run for that
position, please reply to this message.

RED HAT & HDPARM
by Raymond Belt

After the BizNix meeting, I got home and checked my
default RH8 install on the laptop using hdparm:

multcount       = 16 (on)
IO_support      =  0 (default 16-bit)
using_dma       =  1 (on)

So it appears Red Hat is getting more aggressive
in their install process. It was suggested at the
meeting by someone in the audience that Red Hat
runs the disk with more conservative settings.
