ITEC BOOTH

PANUG and BizNix will have a booth (1416) at the Itec show next Wednesday
and Thursday. Thanks to Lorraine Renard for a great job of organizing
booth staff and thanks to those who volunteered to staff the booth. We'll
have lots of open source/free software for both Windows and Linux at the
booth that you can have for a small fee. Much of this software comes with
documentation to make installing/using it easy.

LINUX LIVE

PANUG and BizNix are co-hosting a series of sessions that will be held in
room A107 collectively called Linux Live. You can get more details at
http://www.biznix.org/linuxlive/. If you wish to attend, please register
at the Web site.

The first four sessions are on Wednesday and the last two are on Thursday.

Session A, Into to Linux & Open Source Software, has been made to be as
objective as possible to the point where attendees will hear some of the
negative aspects of using Linux, though there aren't many. This would be
a good session to have your management attend.

Session B and C will be presented by Mark deVisser from Red Hat Software.
We're not yet sure what topic he will speak on in Session C.

If you haven't attended the lecture/demo given by Stevn Bartley and/or
Scott Chapman on Think Client Technology, you need to attend Session D,
Back to the Future: Thin-client Computing. You'll marvel at the
possibilities for restructuring and simplifying your network. You'll have
more control and the ton of money you can save by doing it. Plus, you'll
still be able to run your Windows applications.

Sessions E focuses on integrating Linux into your Windows-based network.
The idea is to preserve your investment in Windows applications by keeping
Windows on the desktop but deploying Linux in the server room, where you
have more control over reliability, performance, security, etc...
The session also covers running both Windows and Linux applications on
the same desktop computer - concurrently.

Session F is a survey of the software available for Linux that you'd
use in an office setting. In addition to the usual ofice suites, we'll
tell you about cutting-edge applications like secure intra-office or
inter-office instant messaging without having to use centralized services
like AOL, MSN, etc.
