News from PANUG/BizNix - November 20, 2002 http://panug.org - http://biznix.org BIZNIX MEETING The combines BizNix/PANUG meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, November 21 at 6:15 pm at Novell's office in Tigard. The presentation will be given by David May and Ed Sawicki. The topic will be Task-Oriented Computing and will: 1. cover the notion of using the best possible tool for the job regardless of platform. (Yes, Windows may offer the best possible solution for some tasks and users) 2. contrast the ways that computing solutions using commercial software differ from free software. This includes where you get your support from, how long it takes to fix problems, etc. 3. suggest that many computer users are capable of using tools that IT staff consider too hard to use. 4. examples of practical applications using non-commercial software. and more... NOVELL TRAINING by Ed Sawicki - Accelerated Learning Center / Tailored Computers One of the very few valid reasons I hear for people switching from NetWare to other operating systems is lack of training in Portland. The few (or one?) training companies that do offer NetWare training here cancel most (or all?) NetWare classes. Now there's a solution. TouchStone Technology is a new Novell Authorized Education Center in Portland and they have a no-cancel policy! They'll teach a one-person class if necessary, though their typical class is about six people. PANUG members get a discount. While they're a new NAEC, they're old hands at teaching NetWare. Randy Voshell, Master CNI, CDE, etc has been teaching NetWare for 7 years and has been using NetWare as an engineer since 1983. They are teaching a 995- Directory Technologies class next week. Check our their website at www.touchstonetech.com for class schedules and information. If you register for a course mention that you are a PANUG member to earn a discount.
