iSCSI
by Ed Sawicki - Accelerated Learning Center / Tailored Computers

The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has
finalized the specs for iSCSI. SCSI is frequently used to
connect storage devices to a system through a high-speed,
local bus. iSCSI expands this to networks. IP-based LANs
or WANs, for example, can connect a storage system to a
computing system and the two can be miles and miles apart.

Free GroupWare
A German Federal government agency has awarded a contract for
development of Open Source groupware client and server software.
The German government is paying for the development because
they want it right now. The timeline demands that existing
software be used. The software must work in a heterogenous
environment and provide email, contacts, appointments, and
tasks lists.

Server components include OpenLDAP, Cyrus IMAP, and Postfix
running on any compatible operating system. These components
work well together right now. Components of the KDE office
suite were chosen for the client side. The software will be
based on KMail, KOrganizer, and other KDE components.
