HELP FOR THE UNEMPLOYED
by Gregg Berkholtz - PANUG President

A significant number of people who come to PANUG meetings
are currently unemployed and looking for work. In an
effort to help, the PANUG Board has just approved two
measures to help unemployed members. The first measure
allows unemployed people to become PANUG members for the
same rate as full time students - only $15 per year - and
enjoy the same benefits as normal members. There are
additional details that deal with people who are unemployed
for only a portion of a year. Check with us if this applies
to you.

The second measure is far more significant. If you're
unemployed, you can attend PANUG-hosted training courses
for a small fee now and pay the balance later once you
have a job. This allows you to acquire additional skills
that makes you more marketable at a time in your life when
you have the free time but not the cash. The details are:

1.You must be unemployed.

2.You must pay a portion of the course fee before
attending the course. This will be approximately 25 percent
  of the full fee.

3.The balance is due once you secure a job.

4.Part of the balance may be repaid by donating some of your
  time to PANUG.

This takes effect immediately. Visit the PANUG web site for
details on current training courses. When you call to register,
mention that you are unemployed.

SOFTWARE LIBRE!

Patrick Corrigan sent in the URL for an article that tells
of foreign governments that are creating laws making it
mandatory for government agencies to use Open Source Software
instead of commercial software when there is a choice. The
