News from PANUG - August 27, 2001 http://panug.org HIGH SPEED - OPPORTUNITIES? by Gregg Berkholtz - PANUG President I'm pleased to announce that the server that PANUG uses for its web pages and email will be running with 10 Mb/s Internet access in the next few weeks. We'll redesign the web pages a bit now that bandwidth limitations are gone. This vastly improved access allows PANUG to provide services to its members that were not practical before. While I have a few ideas, I'd like to hear from you about what PANUG could do to make your life/job easier. EMAIL REDIRECTION, SPAM & RBLs by Ed Sawicki PANUG has offered its members a email redirection service for about 6 years. Any paid-up member can take advantage of it. See the PANUG web site for details. We've been doing spam suppression for these accounts for the past 3 years. Spam is suppressed using a combination of the MAPS RBL lists and black lists I maintain. The MAPS RBL lists are no longer free. PANUG will have to license the lists if we wish to continue to use it. The license includes a fixed fee, which PANUG may be willing to pay for - subject to approval by the Board of Directors. But there is a per user fee of $5 that needs to be passed on to those that use email redirection. If we don't subscribe to the MAPS lists, we'll just have the black list that I maintain to suppress spam - more spam will get through. If you're using email redirection: 1. do you consider spam suppression a valuable service? 1. are you willing to pay the $5 annual fee for spam suppression? Please let us know by replying to this message.
