LINUX INSIDE: INSTALLATION
People who attended the Linux Inside event asked that we follow it
up with a similar session focused at installing Linux. Ask and ye
shall receive. On Saturday, July 14, we'll hold Linux Inside: Installation
from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Novell's office.

You'll see live installations of at least three Linux distributions. Yes,
Red Hat Linux will be one of them. We'll do workstation, server, and
custom installs. We'll tell you about the typical problem areas and
how to avoid installation problems. We'll have a limited number of
computers so you can do your own installation after the presentations.

You'll receive a workbook that covers the technical details of
installation-related topics.

Unfortunately, this session cannot be free but it is inexpensive. PANUG
and BizNix members can attend for $25. Non-members can attend
for $35. To sign up for the session:

1. Send a check made payable to ALC to:
ALC
PO BOX 780-B
Lake Oswego, OR 97034

Make sure your name and address is included.

2. To charge to a credit card, phone ALC at 503-635-6370

ANOTHER PANUG
Thanks to those of you that read the Microsoft email broadcasts and
notified us about the existance of another PANUG user group - the
Portland Area .NET User Group. We asked them to change their
name to avoid confusion and they quickly agreed.

.NET?
Many PANUG members are a little confused about Microsoft's
.NET strategy. Some don't know precisely what .NET is but since
it's from Microsoft and it has to do with software licensing, they
figure it's yet another way to increase our cost of computing and
Microsoft's profits. Many who know the technical details of .NET
describe it as draconian.

PANUG plans to cover .NET in an upcoming meeting. We've invited
a speaker who may be pro-.NET to speak at the meeting. If you
know the details of .NET and wish to contribute by presenting at a
monthly meeting, writing an article, etc. please contact us at
info@panug.org.
