News from PANUG - May 15, 2001 http://www.panug.org info@panug.org MAY MEETING PANUG's May meeting is this Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Novell's office in Tigard. The subject of the meeting will be the Apache web server. The emphasis will be in a few areas: 1. the multiplatform nature of Apache (it runs on Linux/Unix, Windows, NetWare, mainframes, etc.) 2. the ability to configure it using textual or graphical user interfaces. 3. why NetWare users should switch from the Netscape server and why Windows users should switch from IIS. 4. the plethora of tools available for producing dynamic web pages, such as PHP, Python, Perl, etc. 5. the extensibility of Apache via modules. 6. why you seldom hear about significant Apache security problems. This may be a meeting you want to bring your manager to. If you're skilled at PHP, Python, Perl, or other similar tools and you'd like to show off some of your web-based applications at the meeting, reply to this message please. If you're a NetWare user and you'd like some background regarding Novell's history of web servers on Netware, read Ed Sawicki's article called "The History of Novell: Novonics" at: http://www.panug.org/articles/novonics.htm JOBS !
