Novell Portal Services

PANUG's April meeting is this Thursday evening, April 19 at
6:15 pm at Novell's office in Tigard. Mike Ellerbe from Novell
will demonstrate Novell Portal Services. This is a fascinating
product that integrates Novell's technologies, such as NDS,
with Open Source software that Includes the Apache web server
and the Tomcat Java servlet engine. You also have your choice
of platforms. You can use NetWare, Windows NT/2000, Unix,
Linux, or Sony Playstation 2.

(Just kidding about the Playstation)

The product allows an organization to provide highly customizable
and scalable web portals to a vast population of users.

Novell Portal Services is evidence that Novell is keeping up with
the times. Novell recognizes that Open Source software projects,
such as the highly-regarded Apache and Tomcat, result in well
engineered code that has minimal bugs and security holes. By
exploiting this free resource, Novell can bring products to market
faster while reducing their development and support costs. Novell
is in good company. IBM has embraced the same strategy.
