News from PANUG - March 6, 2001 http://www.panug.org UCITA Thanks to those of you that responded to the recent survey about the UCITA. Nearly everyone responded as we expected. PANUG will adopt an anti-UCITA position and will try to send representatives to public hearings on the matter. We'll announce this here when we know when they'll be held so you can choose to get involved. We're now planing an event where Representative Barnhardt will speak about the UCITA. BROWNOUTS by Ed Sawicki Here in Lake Oswego, power line disturbances tend to be rare. In recent weeks, however, we've had momentary outages a few times each week. One of our UPS units had defective batteries and our fax server was down and went unnoticed for quite a number of hours. The gel cell lead-acid batteries used in many UPS units have a limited lifetime and need to be replaced periodically. I usually get at least two but no more than three years on a set of batteries. This means that I can schedule battery replacements - if I remember. Power problems are likely to get worse when we come in to the summer months. It's a good time to do preventative maintenance now.
